The certificate that presents the Gold Certification to the Sea Cottages of Amelia that states "Be it known that Sea Cottages of Amelia has met the criteria set forth by the Green Lodging Program and has achieved Gold Certification for accomplishments in sustainable natural resource management and environmental stewardship. Certification issues May 18, 2023

The Sea Cottages of Amelia is honored to have achieved Gold Certification by the Audubon International Green Lodging Program for accomplishments in sustainable natural resource management and environmental stewardship!

Sea Cottages of Amelia was one of five Amelia Island hotels who were awarded this year during a ceremony at the Springhill Suites by Marriott. Thanks to Chief Operating Officer, Fred Realbuto, and everyone who organized the event as well as Springhill Suites for hosting!

The Green Lodging Program provides third-party on-site verification that lodging facilities, including Sea Cottages of Amelia, have met environmental best practice standards and have demonstrated a strong commitment to the categories of Communication and Education, Water Conservation, Energy Efficiency, Indoor Air Quality, and Waste Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling.

In addition to our Audubon Certification, the Sea Cottages of Amelia received a One Palm Designation from the State of Florida’s Green Lodging program in 2022.

*After our on-site visit & inspection we met the qualifications for gold, but you’ll notice for the ceremony we had a stand-in silver certificate. The certificate was accepted by one of our owners, Phil Griffin.

Environmentally friendly practices have been implemented throughout our hotel. The following represent just a few of the “green” initiatives we currently have in place as well as green aspects of our design:

  1. Donate excess food, toiletry items, furniture, and linens to local charities and shelters
  2. Recycle plastic, glass, cardboard, aluminum, and paper products
  3. Use energy efficient choices for lighting, appliances, office equipment, and heating/cooling.
  4. Xeriscape is using plants requiring little water or care. Many of the plants around the site have drip irrigation so as to avoid a lot of overspray from sprinklers.
  5. The construction of the Sea Cottages was designed to preserve 38 out of 41 of the original trees on the property
  6. The parking lot was designed to use pebbles instead of concrete, so as not to generate more heat.

Father’s Day on Amelia Island

14Jun
An image of the shore on Fernandina Beach with colorful clouds during sunset with "Father's Day on Amelia Island" written on top and the Sea Cottages of Amelia logo in the bottom right corner.

Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 18th, 2023! Here’s just a few ideas on how to celebrate Dad on Amelia Island!

1) BOATS!

There are lots of great ways to get dad on a boat- for fishing or for cruising! There are several great charter boat companies on and around Amelia Island. Amelia Angler Outfitters & Charter Fishing is a great way to charter a boat for a variety of adventures, including fishing, sailing, sightseeing and even fly fishing and casting lessons!

Another great options is Amelia Adventures for private charter boat tours, tours of Amelia & Cumberland Island, paddle boarding, and more!

For dads and families that love to kayak, check out Amelia Island Kayak Excursions for a variety of tours around Amelia Island’s rivers, creeks, and all the way to Cumberland Island!

2) GOLF!

Some dads just love being out on the green! Fernandina Beach Golf Club, is a great option that offers non-member tee times, but booking is still required. For convenience, you can book online!

3) FOOD!

After a long day on the water or in the sun, dad will definitely be hungry! Treat him to something special. Although Amelia Island is known for fantastic seafood, we also have a lot of restaurants with other specialties. A great option for Father’s Day is Bob’s Steak & Chop House that serves classic cuts of steak and chops with delicious sides.

Burlingame Restaurant is another great option with a unique menu,, but we recommend the steak, oysters, Charcuterie, and cocktails!

These are just a few suggestions, but of course there are many amazing adventures and cuisines for everyone to enjoy on Amelia Island- we’re sure you’ll find a very special way to celebrate Father’s Day on our beautiful island!

4) CHILL!

We also love the dads who just want to relax for Father’s Day, and that’s where Sea Cottages of Amelia comes in- we’re 1 mile from a drive-up beach, so if dad just wants to go a short way from the hotel to enjoy the beach with a sturdy cooler, that’s okay with us!

Designated by the Florida Green Lodging Program

16Aug

The Sea Cottages of Amelia just earned a Designation from the Florida Green Lodging Program!

Launched in 2004, the Florida Green Lodging Program is an initiative of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) that designates and recognizes lodging facilities that make a voluntary commitment to conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources. The program’s environmental guidelines enable the hospitality industry to evaluate operations, set goals and take specific actions to continuously improve environmental performance.

The Sea Cottages were assessed and our score met the criteria for a One Palm designation. We will strive to earn even more Palms (bettering our score) by further committing to efforts to make the Sea Cottages as environmentally friendly as they can be by focusing on:

  1. Communication and education (customers, employees, public).
  2. Waste reduction, reuse and recycling.
  3. Water conservation.
  4. Energy efficiency.
  5. Indoor air quality

Thank you to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection!
